Test of "Webshots" photo-website and what it can do for us
for the people who don't have own website but write webpages using pictures
I tried "Webshots" photo-website (http://www.webshots.com/) and it's very promising and wonderful. First of all, it is free. There's a premium account at about $20/year but I stayed in "Free" account to run some tests (at below) in my and our websites. You can stay in the free plan and it worked well. You don't have to buy the premium plan.
We can upload our pictures there and use "the URL of them in the Webshots" in our webpages. Another wonderful thing is that we can upload a bunch of pictures and then they generate a slide show from the pictures we uploaded. And the "Webshots slide show" can be imported to our webpages in our (or your) websites. By using Webshots slide show URL, we can save a lot of trouble showing the slide show in our webpages. Not only can we use the URL in our webpages, also you can send the pictures and whole slide shows in your E-Mail. Once you learn a bit, it seems to be really easy. If you have basic skill in signing up, browsing, utilising any websites, you can do well here. The followings are what can be done with "Webshots". (Sample pictures from Hollywood Bowl Korean Music Festival). 1. Just show the still picture(s) in your webpage and E-Mail.
One of the pictures uploaded in the Webshots (a single still picture out of 24 I uploaded). I used the URL from there to see if it can be fetched over here in my or our website. It worked well in my website at first. Then, it gets red X but with right click and "Show Picture", it comes up quickly. I wonder if it comes up consistently on your screen. The picture came up in the same size as the original size I uploaded (600-pixel width). I don't know what will happen in the size if I upload much larger picture. I will experiment with larger files later. Hell, I can always get by and happy with 600 pixels. You can too. Larger is not necessarily better even though it is free here. After all, it proves that this picture URL from the Webshots can be used in the webpage. How long, how well ? I don't know. 2. Make a moving slide show and send it to webpages and possibly (I have not tried) in your E-Mail.
3. Still Slide Show. You can import it in your webpages and send it in your E-Mails. The URL (the slide show from Webshots) was used with "iframe" and this is what comes out !! This is "straight still" picture slide show in full size, different from the above "moving" slide show. If you put your mouse pointer just below the picture, you get the control bar of the slide show.
By using "iframe" and keeping the width=650, height=620, the ugly Webshots' attachment at the right of the slide show screen can be kept out. No one will know that it's a part of the Webshots slide show !! Well, you may say that I am a bad guy??
If I can get rid of the bottom scroll bar, it will be perfect. I think it can be done by using "scrolling=0 or no". I have not tried or studied this yet. Webpage by SNUMA WM - May 13, 2010
