This elementary school is one of a few Korean Dual Language elementary school
in the United States. This school is in Glendale, Ca (LA area).
Believe it or not, many white American kids chose to learn Korean "because they want to
have many more Korean friends."

Our granddaughter, Heewon, age 7, is a second grader there and fluent in Korean,
and just received another achievement prize at their grand opening of their Korean library.
She appeared in the play of "Nol Boo and Heung Boo" as well.
She can converse fluently with grandparents in Korean and has been an interpreter for
her mom and dad who were born here but cannot speak Korean well.( By the way her parents
are 100% Koreans too).
As you can see, her grandparents are very proud of her, and
she is their big joy.

한국에서 학교 다니듯이 한국언어, 역사, 문화, 전통과 풍습을 잘
가르치며 한국인으로서의 긍지를 북돋아주는 학교에서 손녀가
자라나며 공부할수있어 다행이라고 생각합니다.

참좋은 system이네요.
이곳 미시간에서는 엄두도 못낼 LA 같은곳에나 가능 하지만서도요.

우리도 애들을 통한 경험이지만 한국 처음갔을때 딸애가 한국에 몇주
있는동안에 한국말을 한국에있는 애들 뺨칠만큼 하더라고요. 그리고
돌아와서 이곳 세종학교등을 통해 배웠지만 우선 유용성이 적고 자주
쓸수가 없으니 배운 만큼이나 빨리 잃어 버리더라고요.  

금년들어 처음 큰눈이 왔는데 마침 수요일이고 C-section하러 갈필요도
없으니 그저 방콕신세로 창밖의 설경을 즐기고 있습니다.   규정

Same here, my neighbor, Dr. Hwang,
It seems to snow more now.
I don't have to work today so
I've got lots of spare time today, which
I haven't figured out what to do with yet.

I'm thinking of one old man I sent to the hospital last night
as the snowstorm was hitting our area.
He was in congestive heart failure and severe renal failure.
I told the children he may have to be started on kidney dialysis.
For several years I don't go to the hospital.
My young associates have been more than willing to take care of my patients
and send them back to me. All my patients have accepted this arrangement.
They just don't want me to retire, which keeps me going at my own pace.
I thank Good Lord for it every day.

To learn mother tongue is good for developing Identity, they say.

My three children attended weekend Korean language school,
but they cannot speak Korean fluently, even though they can read
a little bit and good at ordering Korean food at Korean restaurant
in Korean.

This is a good teaching material for all Korean 2-se who were born
in this country, Sukjoo-nim.
It might Inspire them to learn their mother tongue.
