(PBS: Part I; Breaking Ground & A Question of Loyalty)
PBS is running "Asian Americans". Part I almost two hours. A Question of Loyality is more
interesting than Breaking Ground.
Part II and III each one hour.

Years ago, I watched a Korean TV program showing how different in the way of conducting personal relations
between the westerners and the northeast Asians. The whites were much more self-centered and very little clue
what others are thinking. The Asians were much keener what others are thinking and wanting. I thought
that was the reason why there were so many good Asian anesthesiologists and so many terrible white anesthesiologists
in the same department.

Recent research suggests that Westerners and East Asians see the world differently–literally.
I enjoyed the Program enormously, Dr. Ohn, thanks!!!!
I always have a mixed(?) feeling on this term and definition of 'Asian' people, and remained conscious as one of Asians from the moment when I got off the plane at Richmond, Virginia in November 1968 and through all these many years but always as a 'proud' one (자부심/자존심). Indeed, as one of the foreigners of Asian origin, I worked more than double through all my career to claim at least the equal(?) dividend to share which I deserved and still do! And I always reached out to young/junior colleagues of Asian origin to give my support/helps but disappointed to find out Korean Americans are generally subdued(?) or modest/humble to remain passive at the best term to losing the best chance to beat especially Indian(Asian) Americans through the competition, making me wonder whether it has anything to do with the family upbringing.education.

P.S. Through my last trip to Chicago in December to give lectures to NorthWestern University group through their Vascular Symposium, I met three young Korean American vascular surgeons over the dinner and learned a lack of such aggressiveness as a common nature - perhaps to show Korean custom/culture to me as same Korean origin. So I once again confirmed their differences from other Asians even if they are the American born second generation, perhaps by the gene????
