The Godfather at its 50th Anniversary
The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film[2] directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mario Puzo, based on Puzo's best-selling 1969 novel of the same name. The film stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Richard Castellano, Robert Duvall, Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Richard Conte, and Diane Keaton. It is the first installment in The Godfather trilogy. The story, spanning from 1945 to 1955, chronicles the Corleone family under patriarch Vito Corleone (Brando), focusing on the transformation of his youngest son, Michael Corleone (Pacino), from reluctant family outsider to ruthless mafia boss. - From Wikipedia.

There have been two movies that have impressed and influenced me most in my life, Doctor Zhivago and The Godfather. Both movies came into view at the exact right time in the milestone marker in my life.
Doctor Zhivago was published in 1957 and first translated into Korean in 1959 when a friend of mine gave me the book at my high school graduation as I was entering medical school. In 1965, when I arrived in America, the movie first came out and I watched it for the first time as I was starting my internship.
The Godfather premiered in March of 1972, as it was the year when my surgical training in America had finally ended and I went into the new world of America, as a solo-practicing surgeon on my own, far away from my native home. The movie had become a good theme of my early life in America. In 2012, it is the 50th anniversary of the movie as well as my marriage and my first professional step. So, here's my tribute to the movie.
