1. State Visit to Uzbekistan

◇ Holding a Summit with Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov

President Park Geun-hye and President Islam Karimov of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a summit this morning. It was the 13th bilateral summit since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992.



Uzbekistan is the largest Central Asian trading partner to Korea and, at the same time, home to the most ethnic Koreans in the region.



During their summit, the two presidents noted bilateral cooperation in large-scale projects currently underway, including the development of gas reserves and the construction of a gas chemical complex in the Surgil field as well as the construction of a combined thermal power plant in Talimarjan and a gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant. They agreed to continue to work together for the seamless implementation of the ongoing projects.

◇ Attending Korea-Uzbekistan Business Forum



President Park Geun-hye, who is on a state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended the Korea-Uzbekistan Business Forum today. In her keynote speech at the forum, she proposed measures to enhance mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

President Park noted that though it has been only some 20 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties, there has been a remarkable advancement in cooperation based on trust and mutual appreciation of one another’s culture built up over a 1,400-year history of exchanges. She proposed that what has been achieved thus far be upgraded to a new level of economic cooperation benefiting both sides.

2. State Visit to Kazakhstan

◇ Attending Korea-Kazakhstan Business Forum

President Park Geun-hye, who is on a state visit to Kazakhstan, attended the Korea-Kazakhstan Business Forum held today in Astana. In her keynote speech there, she laid out how to bolster economic cooperation for mutual benefits.

President Park noted steady progress in economic cooperation evidenced by the fact that bilateral trade had reached the all-time high of US$1.3 billion and that accumulated investment by Korea in Kazakhstan amounted to US$3.2 billion, the highest in Central Asia. She proposed that bilateral economic cooperation be upgraded to a new height.

◇ Holding a Summit with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev  

President Park Geun-hye and President Nursultan Nazarbayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a summit today. It was the 12th summit between the presidents of the two countries.

Bilateral trade between Korea and Kazakhstan has steadily grown, surpassing the US$1.3 billion mark last year. Kazakhstan is Korea’s largest investment destination in Central Asia with approximately 250 Korean businesses involved in many successful cooperative projects.

President Park Geun-hye met with Prime Minister Karim Massimov of the Republic of Kazakhstan this afternoon. During their meeting, they discussed substantive cooperation between Korea and Kazakhstan as well as collaboration in materializing President Park’s Eurasia Initiative.

3. State Visit to Turkmenistan

◇ Holding a Summit with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov



President Park Geun-hye, who is on a state visit to Turkmenistan, met with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov today. Her visit carries great significance in that it is the first by a Korean head of state since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. This summit is the third between presidents of the two countries.

There is great potential for cooperation between Korea and Turkmenistan, and the two nations have continued to channel multi-pronged efforts into realizing such potential.

◇ Attending State Dinner Hosted by Turkmenistan President

President Park Geun-hye attended a state dinner hosted by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan today. On hand at the dinner held in the presidential palace were some 100 key figures, including officials accompanying President Park and a delegation of Korean business leaders as well as local diplomatic envoys and leading Turkmen dignitaries.

In response to welcoming remarks by President Berdimuhamedov, President Park expressed her appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to her by the Turkmen President and people. She went on to say that her visit to Turkmenistan, the first by a Korean head of state since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, was very meaningful for the advancement of bilateral relations.
