Crazy Rich Asians opened up in major theaters on August 15 and it is 

a box office hit. Even though all actors and actresses are Asians, all kinds

of Americans are flocking to the theaters to see it. It is a romantic comedy.

It reminds me of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. I think it is much better

than that. The plot, scenes, music, acting and cultural representation was

excellent. The movie is based on the novel with same name and the author 

Kevin Kwan grew up in Singapore. It is about crazy rich Asians in Singapore.

The movie starts with the seen that Asian family trying to check in a hotel

in London. The manager, an English white man is refusing to give her the room

supposed to be reserved. Eventually they are checked in only after they realized that

the hotel was sold to the family.

English called Asians mostly from north east Asia or Far East “orientals”

To them, Asians were uncivilized and inferior to Europeans. When they say

Orientals to the people from the east, it has the above connotations. It is 

a derogatory term.
