1.

1.
"Choose dark back ground and use a macro or telephoto mode.".
It makes a perfect sense and your pictures are very very delicate by doing so, especially those water drops.
2.
But my problem was that the object is about 1 meter long, as I wanted to capture the
delicate long stems on which a flower or a flower bud were sitting, just like the painting
below. The object is too big for a macro mode and telephoto lens was not tried.
But, the distance between the lotus stems and weeds are too close? I have to test with binocular as I do not yet have a digital telephoto lens.
Only way to follow your advise is push away the weeds about 50 cm from the lotus stems by wading into the pond and wait until it becomes a bit dark to make the backgrownd dark? But the flower petals may begin to close in? Maybe there is no solution to my question other than doing it by painting?
I find zoom lens 15-115 mm for digital camera is very expensive and I may have to by a
regular digital lens about 20-50 mm and another one 50-200 mm?

1.
Every one of your advices is very useful.
Your lotus seed pod picture is the one I want to create, but I want the full view from the bottom. I thought if I take a up-down panoramic view of the flower stem it will come out like your photo.
Some camera has panoramic mode by shooting with sweep down/side motion as if you take video shot. I do not know it means you can even move your camera sideways or
downwards while you take picture. Simple thing is to take series of shots sideways or downwards to take pano-picture stiched by the camera.
2.
" I sometimes put a black clothes in the back of the object.." this may work too!
Once I tried this method with other objects, but the cloth itself was so vivid, as I did not
put it outside of the depth of the field zone.
To play different methods, here what I need is clear SLR view
just like from the old 35 mm SLR camera. Then current heavy DSLR cameras may
be helpful (I do not have one yet), to see clearly what I am capturing rather than wasting my time by taking shot semi-blindly.
3.
Do you know if the mirrorless screen view is as good as the regular DSLR pentaprism mediated view?

Dr. Minn,
피사체의 거리와 배경의 거리의 가까움, 밝은 대낮, absence of large focal opening and macro lens,
등등의 문제로 it may be almost impossible to achieve what you want in your particular picture.
But, please don't go out and buy expensive lens or camera. You may never have enough use
to justify spending a big sum for that. A lot of photographers are obsessed with expensive equipments
and they don't even know how to use it.
You can achieve most of the same pictures in this website with regular non-DSLR.
The following may be what you wanted. You can achieve the same effect if you spend enough time.
I did this process in a hurry just to show you. It could be much better if I took enough time.
I used: Layer-duplicate-Background layer-adjust-blur-Gaussian blur-radius 3-eraser-clone brush.

Dear WM and Ms. Lee,
You mean Photoshop cleansing is the royal road!
If I take that route, I would make it all dark or put a lake with water waves ?
That is better than the natural noisy back ground seen now.
Nothing wrong in ignoring or changing the background, like painting.
With this regular digital camera, we save film cost, but I cannot control DOF well, as the lens is small, cannot focus well on the object, not knowing whether it is foccused or not, even with manual mode as electronic view screen is clumsy. We still have lower digital pixel, comparing with 35 mm film.
Maybe we should wait until this digital camera catches up with the old 35 mm camera one
day. One of my nieces is working for the major Jap Camera company and I may get one
with a garage sale price?
Only thing we can do better is "photo editing.."..
It becomes like painitng again.
That must be the way, rather than insisting on being a photo purist.
Thanks.

All, I really mean "all", photos by professionals are photo-edited and tweaked.
They would take the pictures in "Raw" format and then tweak them according to their purposes.
There's no shame in doing it. Actually, that's the way of doing it !!
For us, if you can't afford the best, you go for the second best.
If the second best is as good as the best, you are ahead in your game.
Please don't go out and buy the "Photoshop".
I know a lot of people who are obsessed with the best
and then just waste money for something they can never learn and use.
If you do, I will feel guilty about introducing it here.
It will take a few semesters' study (in college) to be a fluent user of all it's capacities.
Just to use a certain feature, there are a lot of "free" photo-editor programs
that can achieve the same thing.
