At my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep— I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning’s hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night. Do not stand By my grave, and cry— I am not there, I did not die. Summary and Analysis The poem on a gravestone at St Peter’s church, Wapley, England "Do not stand at my grave and weep" is the first line and popular title of a bereavement poem of disputed authorship. Below is the version published in The Gypsy of December 1934 (page 16), under the title "Immortality" and followed by the author's name and location: "CLARE HARNER, Topeka, Kan." The indentation and line breaks are as given there. Do not stand By my grave, and weep. Other versions of the poem appeared later, usually without attribution, such as the one below. Differing words are shown in it by italics. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on the snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there; I did not die. The Gravestone at St Peter’s church, Wapley, England The poem is twelve lines long, rhyming in couplets. Each line is in iambic tetrameter, except for lines five and seven, the fifth having an extra syllable, the seventh, two extra. Origins Who was Clare Harner? John Wayne read the poem "from an unspecified source" on December 29, 1977 at the memorial service for film director Howard Hawks. After hearing John Wayne's reading, script writer John Carpenter featured the poem in the 1979 television film Better Late Than Never. To coincide with National Poetry Day 1995, the British television programme The Bookworm conducted a poll to discover the nation's favourite poems, and subsequently published the winning poems in book form. …… Immortality image Bee Gees - Immortality (Live in Las Vegas, 1997 Céline Dion - Immortality (Official Video) ft. There are Korean versions of the same song.
But they are much different from the original song.
I like the original song better.

Thank you for your thorough review of this poem.
I didn't realize that it had been already posted three times; in Apr 27, 2016, Feb 15, 2012 and Sept 04, 2010.
I will try to find more videos.
I just found and posted two videos at the end of the web page.
Please enjoy the songs.

Celine Dion's "Immortality" is a different song with different lyrics.
The song of "Thousand Winds" does not necessarily try to express Immortality.
The gentle sweet song tries to tell you that when someone dies, his (or her) soul
has not gone away but stays with you.
This song is in the Tajin Karaoke in the Japanese section.
It is easy to learn and sing. Originally being in Japanese,
you can easily replace the lyrics with English or Korean.

Recently I stumbled upon this sad but illuminating poem, which moved me deeply.
The author was not clarified though a few names were claimed.
I wish you enjoy reading this work.
