Dear friends,
I am sure many of you have a house-cleaning maid to come to your house to clean the house regularly!
Would you continue to have this service though you are a super-senior, taking the additonal risk to contact non-family member/outsiders during this Corona virus crisis?
What about asking the maid to wear the mask and the gloves? Is this precaution helpful?
Wish to have some wise opinion if you would. Thank you in advance.
Will remain,
BB Lee
BTW, our maid is a young Hispanic woman with three young children!

Dear Dr. Lee,
Like all the experts have been telling us, the elderly,
let's not panic or have temper tantrum,
In my opinion, covid-19 just providied you a great opportunity,
i.e. applying for a new full time job at home, that is, a full time janitor at home
instead of being a full time traveling international lecturer.
One thing you are almost sure of is that the new job will please Mrs.,
assuming you do the acceptable job.
So there is no time to waste. You could start learning all the ideas from
Mrs. and your children and your previous cleaners by phone, etc.
You can make the new job as worthwhile or holy as you like
depending upon your attitude. If you can have an attitude like that of
a monk at the monastery, your new job indeed will be as noble and holy
as your old job, I'm positive.
As a matter of fact, my wife and I use an agency which sends same Mexican ladies
to clean our place. They certainly clean other houses too.
My wife already decided not to use them indefinitely, which means
that I will have my old job back.
By now, Dr. Lee, you know my answer to your question.
wish you all the best.
best regards.

Thanks a bunch, Dr. Lee, for such timely advice I take seriously!
Indeed, my wife and one daughter think a precaution with Mark and gloves should be OK while other two daughters hit the ceiling asking us to stop the cleaning lady coming indefinitely!
Although logically correct to stop the cleaning service by the outsider, hard to carry on!
Will convey your opinion to my boss/wife to make a final decision!
All the best,
With warm regards,
BB Lee

I would not make the solution too complicated here.
If your maid's children are under school or kindergarten age, I may not worry too much
but she definitely needs to wear gloves and masks, and keep them on until she leaves your house.
but if they are in kindergarten or school, I will keep the maid away at least until the epidemic ends.
We have stopped the help by visiting housemaids at least until the end of the epidemic.
Well, regardless, just live 2-3 months without the housemaids and it won't hurt you that bad.
I am saying, for a cleaner house, you don't want to get cleaned yourself off this world.
Also, I wouldn't let the coronavirus dictate the course of your life.
That is something you can not decide in a hurry.

Got you, Doc!
Sensible decision like Dr. Lee HJ.
Yesirreeee!
I relayed your as well as Dr. LeeHJ's message to my boss, which convinced her to call off the service tomorrow indefinitely.
Muchos Gracias!

Some more questions, Doc.
How much the carry-out service could reduce the risk?
Is Drive-through service safe?
Is Korean grocery store like H-mart more riskier than ordinary store like Giant?
Gingerly,
BB Lee

If you are really worried about the virus, I would say Drive-Through should be safer
as you contact only one person rather than the whole roomful of people.
In Denver, a Korean who was proved to have Coronavirus infection went through the H-Mart.
There was a big E-Mail circulation notifying not to go to the H-Mart.
A son of a local buffet restaurant got the Coronavirus and as he was working there,
as soon as it was known to the public, the buffet restaurant closed its door voluntarily
as no one was going there.
H-mart being the largest one in the neighborhood, a lot of Chinese and Koreans go there.
The risk is definitely higher in the H-Mart compared to a small Korean groceries where
there are fewer people shopping.
I went to my wife's doctor's office today. Surprisingly, all employee and doctors were wearing masks and gloves
and the doctor covered his stethoscope in a glove before listening to her chest.
As I tried to wait for my wife in the waiting room, they told me to wait for her in my car in the parking lot
instead of the waiting room. I got chased out in no time.
A very popular golf range was closed voluntarily due to the virus scare
but I think it was not necessary for them to do so.
There is plenty of "social distancing" between the golfers there.
Not like in California, the grocery store still has plenty of groceries on the shelves.
I did not see any empty shelves here so far.
Our local bank had a very long line of people who came to pick up $100 bills.
Our children called us and said "Please don't go anywhere. We will pick them up and bring them to you."
Massive paranoia is pervading down on us even in Denver.
We are living in a very interesting and crazy time in our life. We might as well enjoy it !!

Thank you for the information, WM.
One advice for seniors talked about in the news
in regard to grocery shopping is doing the grocery shopping
at night when there are less people.
2020.03.16 11:38
Great information, thanks to both!
So, more risk among Korean gathering place like H-mart?
A good idea to go to grocery shopping in evening or early morning!
Mind boggling!
Agitated,
BB Lee
