Have you ever heard this passage before? Possibly you have, but I haven’t, not until this time. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Emma Lazarus, poet Twenty sixth Street Highline Loft Bell Lab > West Side Cowboy 1934 Perspective High Line Crowded street Gansevoort End Old Railroad High Line Tourism > Group talk > Twin building > Promenade Secret Garden prior to Redesign Video: Do not miss this vivid history of "I Lift my Lamp beside the Golden Door"

When my son lived in Manhattan(E 35 & 2nd Ave) several years back,
I meant to visit High Line Park, but it never has materialized.
Considering I was walking daily, no reason not to visiting this place
by walking. The distance was not mattered because I walked to K Town for eating
many times,ㅎ,ㅎ. So there was no excuse for that, but it never has materialized!
New York is really unique City to visit and New Yorkers loved their dogs!!
I have seen 'Dog Park' in Manhattan means this park is only for dogs.
Many dogs were running around for enjoying the fine day. It was hardly believed
that this could happen at the price of land as high as Manhattan! I envied
New Yorker's generosities and placidities of life in general.
When my daughter lived at Brooklyn a few years ago, my son-in-law and I went to
Prospect Park on each Saturday for mainly walk for Floyd. I have never seen
those many dogs in one place and still remembered hundreds dogs play vying
around huge snow filled ground vividly.
Floyd was a Labrador Retriever(mud), rescued dog from abandonment found in Long
Island beach and he had been with Frank since then. He was part of my daughter's family
until he died several years ago due to melanoma.
He had lived long enough considering he had suffered complication of multi organs failure
at the time of rescue. He had lived at least several years of age, although nobody knew exactly
how old he was at the time of rescue.
I had a fond memory with him as well. I volunteered to walk for Floyd in those days sometimes
twice a day. He was a very gentle big dog except for the time, he had confronted his arch-rival,
one of the pit bulls on the street. I thought they were fighting for the territory. I had pull
Floyd as hard as possible to restrain him. Now Floyd has gone and those are my doggone memory
with him!
Sorry, my comment drifted the wrong way. Thanks for your introduction to High Line Park!, Sunbaenim! KJ

I know you are a great walker, but are you a subway train rider like me?
If not, please try its ride since it can take you almost anywhere as you wish in Manhattan and other Boroughs.
Not only its fare is reasonable, it saves time compared with taxicab riding.
Using personal walk and train ride, you can go easily in NYC and neighboring cities in New Jersey.
It will help our mobility considerably.
I will save our dog talks for other time.
It's pleasure for me to hear from you.

Yes, I had been using subways most of the times when I need to
go some places in NYC. As matter of fact, we have 'Easy Pay'
for senior citizen(automatic refill), which is cheaper and
very convenient. We made this card at Government office in
Manhattan years ago and we have renewed online since then.
My present card is good till 01/31/20.
Since my daughter moved to Westchester County, NY and my son
live at Brooklyn NY, We are using subways less frequently
as before. Thanks for the information. KJ

About dogs in my life, there isn't much to talk about since we never had any pets.
I am not a dog-lover or dog-hater, without much interest in them.
About ten years ago, Henry, my eldest son, and his family had a small dog called "Lucky".
He was a nice and friendly guy, and greeted me by jumping up and down at me.
How can't I like and love him? We usually visited Henry's in Newport Beach, CA once or twice a year.
At the time of departure, I patted him on his back and neck. At one time I gave Lillian, daughter-in-law
a check of a considerable amount to buy him steaks.
A few years ago, I was told he had been attacked by a wandering coyote and died at a Vet's office.
Lillian said to me Lucky was surrounded by her, Henry, and Darcy, my granddaughter, and
Lucky saw all of them and closed his eyes.
I was so saddened at the story. One day I found a dog tag with a printed name of "Lucky Chung",
which made me tell him, "You, Lucky, is now my third grandson." and declared he was formally adopted!
My wife and I still talk about him with fond memories.

I am not 'a born animal lover' either, Sunbaenim! but when
you have lived with 'real genuine animal lover'for near 50
years, you naturally became a sort of 'adopted animal lover!
She was raised with many animals and has real love in
her blood and her first donation for charity is Humane
Society of course.
In many stories of animals with my wife. I will brief with
these 2 short stories before close.
Closest friend of mine in Seoul once had 2 vicious dogs
(진도개) and even his wife was afraid to them and did extreme
care when she fed them. The first time we met them, I was trying
to stay away from them as far as possible, but my wife appoached
them naturally and they greeted my wife just like old friend
wagging their tails. It was totally amazing to see dogs knew, who
love them instantly.
Once in the middle of a hot summer, when we visited my parent's grave
yard in Korea, we have to hurry up to catch returning bus.
On the way to the graveyard, we found out most of the village were empty
for working in the field. Many dogs were barking their hearts out
toward us and my wife took her time in way behind doing something.
Surprisingly on the way back, those dogs kept on following my wife
waggling their tails instead of barking. Here was a story about it.
She found out there were no water and foods for them on a hot day as
that day and she cleaned up bowls and gave them fresh water and foods.
No wonder they were wagging their tails rather than barking on the way
back. Animals know who love them! KJ

I believe dogs have a special sense to acknowledge the benevolence toward them, and so they feel warm and comfortable to Mrs. 황.
I believe she is special to them. Unfortunately my situation is opposite to her loving care.
One day I made a little(?) kick to Dubu's rear when he was fleeing from me.
Dubu (one of two Jim's dogs) pooh-poohed in my blanket on the floor of my room at the Southampton
while I was away and the door was ajar.
Ever since, he barked at me whenever he had his allies, my son and daughter-in-law.
I said to him, "Don't forget you and I will be alone and then you know what's going to happen to you."
This is not the best situation, Dr. 황. I might learn one or two tricks from Mrs. 황 to improve our human-canine relationship.
2018.12.18 23:11
I think animals including dogs are smart enough
to recognize the situation well. Best thing to
me is to show your affection toward them to get
trust back from them.
Bribes with few goodies are not going to be hurt!
Sunbaenim!,ㅎ,ㅎ. Most of the dogs, I know have good enough
appetite to give in the feeling toward you!
This is a mere opinion from one of 'adopted animal
lovers'! Good luck! KJ

Thank you Dr. 황. I will take your professional(?) advice.
It isn't easy to change my temper(?) so quickly, but it's far easier to bribe them with some dog's yummies.
I consider trying the latter, and in time I will let you know the outcome.

A couple of biscuits will make Dubu happy again toward you! Sunbaenim!
It has been nice conversation with you and You have a Happy Holidays! KJ
